Weight problems were my business. I didn't have a weight problem, I taught people how to resolve theirs. When I would arrive to conduct trainings for our weight control chain, I was often asked why I was in this line of work (for some reason people think if you're skinny, you shouldn't be in the weight control business).

My reply?
I was in the weight control business because...
I was an expert!
And I was.
I have helped many people lose many, many pounds. But when menopause hit (how did I miss the implications of that one!), I was blindsided. Not only that, but I found that I could not--and would not--diet.
I was 20 pounds past my comfort zone and it seemed I was stuck with every ounce of it. I walked, I gardened, I counted calories...all to no avail. It seemed that everything I tried had no effect whatsoever, or even worse, added another pound. I researched menopausal weight gain and the results were so discouraging that I almost resigned myself to remaining a "pleasantly plump" middle-aged woman . . . almost.
I had always known that most weight loss programs worked well, it was just a matter of finding which one would work for me. Imagine my chagrin when I found that I was not a good fit for any diet or program. I tried a number of things, but the bottom line was, that I was simply NOT GOING TO DIET.
There was.
That is when ON THE SHRINK was born.
And I was certain there had to be others like me as well, and that is where the On The Shrink blog came in. It is designed to help us go the distance in our weight control journey.
